Had an excellent day shadowing a practical session with a stroke survivor yesterday. An interesting point came up…
Top end athletes have to work bloody hard, day in and day out. They have to strive for months on end for very marginal gains. Every 1% of improvement is an incredibly hard fought battle. They need to take every advantage possible from their training, nutrition and recovery strategies. They often have to slog their way through long, grinding periods where they see little improvements and they will question why are they bothering and is this even worth doing.
And this is exactly the same for stroke survivors.
Both these populations of people are trying to work their bodies to the peak of their physical potential. They have a hell of a lot to learn from eachother, and we all have a hell of a lot to learn from them.
I’m looking forward to the next stage in my stroke rehab training. It’s very inspiring…
