Do you have an Active or Passive mindset?

Active vs passive mindsets when changing behaviour

Most people don’t get stuck because they lack motivation. They get stuck because they’re waiting.

  • Waiting for work to calm down.
  • Waiting to feel motivated.
  • Waiting for the “right week” to start.

That’s the passive mindset. It also tends to fixate on what’s not possible.

  • “I don’t have time.”
  • “I can’t cook properly this week.”
  • “I can’t get to the gym.”
  • “I can’t focus when I’m stressed.”

When you’re waiting and rehearsing everything you can’t do, change stays out of reach.

An active mindset flips the script. It looks for what is possible today.

  • “I can prep one thing.”
  • “I can take a short walk.”
  • “I can tidy up my environment for tomorrow.”
  • “I can do the smallest working version instead of the ideal one.”

Active thinking isn’t about perfect commitment. It’s about agency.
It asks:

“Given the kind of day I’m having, what’s the smallest thing I can choose?”

That tiny choice keeps you involved in the process instead of stuck on the sidelines. And involvement is what builds momentum.
