The Problem
Protein is the building blocks of our body. People eat an unbalanced meal, with either not enough protein, or protein mixed with low quality saturated fats. Protein with high levels of saturated fat is higher in calories and increases risk of heart disease and high cholesterol.
The Solution
Use the Healthy Eating Plate guidelines to make sure:
- Each meal includes lean protein, such as fish, poultry, beans and nuts.
Your Action Plan
- Take a look at this list of foods containing protein and add the ones you like to your shopping list.
- Make sure a quarter of each meal is made up of something from that list.
- Each meal, look at your plate and ask yourself the following question:
“How can I improve the lean protein in this meal?”
