Hands up if you have ever tried to achieve a goal, only to get so frustrated by the number of times you have fallen just short? Well don’t worry, you are not alone. It is so common that there is even famous phrase telling us what to do in these situations:
“Try, try and try again.”
But there is another famous phrase you should also know:

It is not enough to just mindlessly repeat things and then leave it up to luck. If we want different results, we must take different actions. Otherwise we are doomed to repeating failure time and time again. And that is why at Rees Fitness, I coach people through “The Debrief”.
The Debrief is such a simple yet powerful tool, it can be applied in any number of situations to improve things. It is a framework to help us look back at what we have done, how we did it and how it can be improved, if we were to do it again. It is so important that we are able to critically assess our actions, identify our strengths and weaknesses and adapt/change our course of action next time. This is a real skill that can be transferred into many aspects of people’s lives.
So when I “Debrief” a client, I ask 3 questions:
- What went well?
- What didn’t go well?
- What can we change for the better next time?
Then we use the answers to prepare a client for their next go. It could be adjusting their plan, giving them a fresh focus, setting homework to work on. But most importantly, it sets people up to improve on their last attempt, not just mindlessly repeat it. It’s simple and gets results.
So there you have it, The Debrief! Just one of the many ways I help coach people to a stronger, fitter, healthier and more capable future. If you want or need more than just a sweat session, maybe you should book yourself a Debrief with me today. Achieving your goals has never felt better!
