The following is a common phrase I often hear during training…
“I’m doing rubbish today! What’s wrong with me!”
Everyone at some point.
And I’m going to tell you what I tell them when they say it…
Don’t worry. No one crushes it in training every session. No one! In fact, if you think about it logically, the majority of training sessions are just “average”. Only a few are “amazing” while a only a few are “rubbish”. The important thing is you are here and you are doing it here and now. Bloody well done!
Despite what you may have read or been taught or had drilled into you, the “go hard or go home” attitude is a fantasy. The majority of our success comes from simply having the right attitude to just turn up and get stuck in.
I’m not gonna lie, if you want to be a world champion, then it will take a hell of a lot more than just that…but I want you to ask yourself honestly…are you really honestly aiming to be world champion?
If the answer is yes, then go for it! I’ll be first in the queue to get your autograph.
But if the honest answer is no, then you will almost certainly get better results if you stop beating yourself up. Congratulate yourself for turning up when things are not perfect and when others would have bailed, and keep getting stuck in and enjoying it.
I’ve seen too many good people beat themselves up because they are not “perfect”. Don’t ever forget the phrase that pays…
“Turn up.
Get stuck in.
Enjoy.”
Ancient Welsh proverb.
