The Craven district council are starting a couple of new Healthy Lifestyle courses and I'm running them! Woo Hoo!
These courses are great, even if I do say so myself. They help people take control of their eating habits and weight for the long term. No short term supplements and over reliance on expensive and dodgy potions. One goal is to educate people on what they should/shouldn't be eating. But most importantly, how they can do it.
We know what we need to do. But we don't always know how to do it. And sometimes it's just really difficult to do.
Went for my first physio appointment this morning. It was just a routine check in to see who I am, what happened to me and what my condition is at the moment. So here goes...

What is the virtual classroom?
The virtual classroom is something Google developed to help school teachers teach their classes. It is a way for a "teacher" (or coach) to educate, encourage, set homework and interact with "pupils" (or clients) online. I'm obviously more than happy to steal anyones good idea, so I'm using their classroom and school model/tools to help people with their health, fitness and eating.
Back in the hospital today for regular checkup and change of plaster. Apparently healing very well and my ankle is now back in a new pot with a nearly 90 degree bend on it. So in another 2 weeks time I should be in with final new plaster or maybe a boot. So still hobbling on crutches for at least another 2 weeks.
When it comes to your health and wellbeing, first and foremost you should listen to the medical experts. Also, because there are so many variables here, I will only be able to give general guidelines. You cannot and should not think of anything I say here to be specific advice to you personally.
That being said, my experience of helping people return from injury or surgery has taught me a thing or two. And I actually snapped my achilles tendon at the start of July, so am having some first hand experience of this!
If we need to change our activity levels, or if we need to change our eating/drinking habits, it can be a bit daunting. We see and hear so many things we should be doing. We look at ourselves and at those people in the magazines and think there is so much we need to change! Where do we even start?
Well, don't worry. Do me a favour and don't try to change everything. You shouldn't try to change it all in one go. That will almost certainly lead to failure.
However, there is a saying a wise man once said:
We all know how to get fitter:
- Move more
- Move more often
- Get the blood pumping
- Get the breathing up
We all know how to get stronger:
- Lift weights
- Do resistance exercises
- Do it more often
We all know how to eat healthier:
The L Sit is a very difficult core exercise. I mean it, it's really hard to do. You need a lot of things working well for you if you want to be able to do it. Things like:
- Strong stomach muscles
- Strong legs
- Flexible hamstrings
- Strongs wrists
- Good sense of balance
In this way, you might consider the L Sit to be an example of a Keystone Ability.
