We know what we need to do. But we don't always know how to do it. And sometimes it's just really difficult to do.
Especially when the first challenge we face is, in fact, the hardest exercise known to man...walking through the door and actually turning up. It's incredibly hard to do. And the bad news is, it doesn't really get easier.
After years of doing this, I still have difficulty dragging my arse out of the sofa to go do something physically demanding. And most of the people I've spoken to feel the same. But that is nothing to feel bad about. Stressing about it doesn't make it any easier. But there are some things we can do that can make it easier.
What would you do if faced with a difficult task like moving your furniture around? Would you continuously keep trying by yourself time and again? Only managing to get the wardrobe so far before it gets stuck and you have to stop, only to try again a few days later?
Or would you ask your friends or people around you to give a hand? Because doing a difficult task is easier when you have help from other people.
So lets treat "the hardest exercise known to man" in the same way, shall we? Instead of struggling and getting stuck time and again, why not get some other people involved to give us a hand. So we can get it cracked once and for all?
I was running the weekly weight management class yesterday and we ended up talking about the things that people found most helpful about the class...and as usual, the fact that it is help as a group was a really high priority.
Because if you are not struggling by yourself, if you have people around you to help you along, if you have people around you that you can help along...all these things help make the hardest exercise known to man just that little bit easier.
So my advice to you, is whether you are aiming to change your weight or get into a good habit of exercise and training, join or start a group of like minded people to hep you. It will make a world of difference!
